Satisfaction with life in elderly residents of a marginal population in North Lima

Objectives: To determine the satisfaction with life in elderly residents in a marginal population in North Lima. Materials and methods: This study has a quantitative approach, descriptive methodological design, cross-sectional. The population was made up of 108 elderly residents. The technique used was the survey and the measurement instrument was the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), made up of five items and is one-dimensional, which measures people's level of satisfaction with life. Results: Regarding the participants, the minimum age was 65 and the maximum was 96, with the mean age being 73.16 years. In relation to sex, 74.1% (n = 80) are female and 25.9% (n = 28) male. Regarding life satisfaction in the elderly, dissatisfied predominated with 27.8% (n = 30), followed by slightly below average in 24.1% (n = 26), extremely dissatisfied with 17.6% (n = 19), moderately satisfied in 11.1% (n = 12), very satisfied with 10.2% (n = 11) and satisfied in 9.3% (n = 10). Conclusions: Regarding life satisfaction, it was more frequently dissatisfied, followed by slightly below the average, extremely dissatisfied, moderately satisfied, very satisfied and satisfied.
