Objectives: To determine the association between adherence to oral pharmacological treatment and glycemic control in non-insulin-treated patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted in 112 patients attending a primary healthcare center in North Lima during 2025. Adherence was assessed with the MMAS-8 scale and glycemic control with the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value recorded within the previous three months; HbA1c <7% was considered controlled. Descriptive statistics, Fisher's exact test, and prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were used. Results: Medium adherence was found in 56.3%, and 65.2% had uncontrolled glycemia. No overall association was observed between adherence and glycemic control (p=0.140). However, low adherence was associated with a higher prevalence of uncontrolled glycemia compared with high adherence (PR=1.511; 95%CI: 1.010-2.260; p=0.044). Forgetfulness or carelessness showed no overall association (p>0.90). For intentional omission or discontinuation, the overall test was borderline (p=0.064), although the low category showed a higher prevalence of the outcome (PR=1.961; 95%CI: 1.373-2.801; p<0.001). Conclusions: No overall association was demonstrated; localized differences suggest that low adherence and intentional discontinuation may identify patients with a higher prevalence of inadequate glycemic control.
