Behaviors Associated with Chronic Pain in Older Adults Treated at a National Hospital in Metropolitan Lima, 2026

Abstract:
Objective: To determine the behaviors associated with chronic pain in older adults treated at a national hospital in Metropolitan Lima. Materials and methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and non-experimental study involving 58 hospitalized individuals who completed a sociodemographic data questionnaire and a pain behavior questionnaire. Results: The results show that 55.2% (n=32) of the individuals exhibited low-level pain behaviors, while 44.8% (n=26) exhibited moderate level pain behaviors. Conclusions: In conclusion, chronic pain in geriatric patients significantly diminishes their quality of life affecting mobility, independence, and emotional well-being which can lead to more rapid physical and cognitive decline.
