Quality of life in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis from three establishments of the first level of care in Lima

Abstract

Objectives: It was to determine the quality of life in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis from three establishments of the first level of care in Lima. Materials and methods: The approach was quantitative and the methodological design was descriptive-transversal. The population consisted of 64 tuberculosis patients who are in the process of treatment. The technique used was the survey and the measurement instrument was the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire that assesses quality of life and presents 24 items distributed in four factors or dimensions (physical health, psychological health, social relationships and the environment). Results: The average age of the participants was 44 years. In relation to sex, 53.1% (n = 34) are men and 46.9% (n = 30) are women. Regarding quality of life, the medium level predominated with 57.8% (n = 37), followed by the low level in 35.9% (n = 23) and high with 6.3% (n = 4). In relation to the dimensions, in physical health the average level predominated with 73.4% (n = 47); in psychological health the average level was 75% (n = 48); in social relationships the average level with 56.3% (n = 36); finally, in environment the average level with 75% (n = 48). Conclusions: Regarding quality of life, the medium level predominated, followed by low and high. In relation to the dimensions, the medium level predominated in all.
